WHAT KIND OF SHOW AM I COMING TO?

As you can see in my bio below, Dr. Pants has been and continues to be an eclectic project, musically. You might be hesitant to attend a concert, because you may not know exactly what you’re going to get. Therefore, I have devised the following system of terms that help you know what to expect from any given show you may see advertised on social media or anywhere else:

DENIM - Acoustic singer/songwriter performance, with possible occasional electronics or hip-hop oriented material

CORDUROY - More rock band based, but could also have electronic or hip-hop oriented material

VELVET - All bets are off. Expect this show to be eclectic and weird.

COTTON TWEED - This is a performance of composed music for western classical instruments or voices, but could also interpolate other musical genre content.

THE STORY OF DR. PANTS

Dr. Pants and Weird Files are the stage/project names of Oklahoma City composer/songwriter/YouTuber David Broyles. For over twenty years, Broyles has been bringing his nerdy, heartfelt songs and bizarre compositions to life under these monikers. Broyles’ music displays influences as disparate as Tom Petty, Robyn Hitchcock, Frank Zappa, Beastie Boys, Prince and Aphex Twin.

Dr. Pants has operated off and on as a 4-piece electric rock band for its entire lifespan, but that is just one of several means of musical presentation Broyles is pursuing at this point in his career. He started out his musical life performing as an acoustic singer-songwriter, and that aspect of his identity never really went away. Add to that his continuing interest in electronic music, hip hop, and experimental composition of various kinds, and a more accurate picture of his current musical activities begins to form. In the future, one can expect to see the names Dr. Pants and Weird Files attached to recordings and performances in a variety of stylistic idioms, including (but definitely not limited to) acoustic and electric rock.

Dr. Pants songs have been featured on multiple television shows including MTV’s Next, Jersey Shore, CBS Sunday Morning and World Cup Soccer as broadcast on the BBC. He has composed theme music for multiple podcasts and independent films and videos. Recent releases include the electronic album “Objectionable Object”, “The BLM Suite” (an epic, 8-minute slab of social commentary), and the 2-song single “Hopefully (Let It Be So)”/”Silly For Tilly”. Plans for the immediate future include cassette reissues of older material, a new full-length rock album, an acoustic best-of album, and more.
